There was some concern with it being open because there was a foreign delegation scheduled to visit. We got lucky thou and were able to go in.
Ahsan arranged for a guide who was very helpful to understand what we were seeing. In a nutshell it was built by the mogul emperors, who also built the taj mahal. Unfortunately once the sikhs took power it was stripped of most of its marble and gold embellishments. The architecture is amazing and the engineering of the fountains boggles the mind. There must have been thousands upon thousands working since despite the scale and detail it didn't take all that long to build.
After lunch and the remaining tour we visited a mosque.... The largest in the city. The inner courtyard is at least the size of St. Peter's and Mohsin said that it is filled each Friday for prayers and during Eid the outer courtyard and the surrounding streets filled as well. After that Ahsan's family went home to rest but we went back to a stop to pick up something I had seen for Hanna and grab a coffee. We also took the opportunity to wander about a supermarket as well ..... I always like to look and see what has emphasis in a foreign grocery store that is of little import at home. Photos are below and not surprisingly Ahsan says its quite up-market.
Finally for dinner we went for Japanese which was excellent. Now I'm going to hope I have a quick connection and I can get some of these photos uploaded
Over and out
