Getting acquainted  with lahore

We woke up early, like 5:30 in the morning, from the call to prayer, and with my mind racing I couldn't manage to get back to sleep.

Same thing with Madeleine who arrived fresh as a daisy ready for breakfast at 7:00. So down we all went and with the exception of puri, halva, Chana masala, everything else was pancakes, cereal etc.  we woke up Ahsan at about 9:30 by phone and then went for a walk around gymkhana.  It's a vast piece of property, with an eighteen hole golf course, three pools hard and grass tennis courts, squash courts as well as the club house and rooms.

Ahsan picked us up and drove us over two Toyota garden motors where they operate that business as well as the head office of Kwaja spinning mills which is physically in gurganwala. The business is very busy and they are in enviable position of having more demand for cars than they can fulfill.  The corolla is the most popular car in Pakistan, it being assembled in Karachi. The price odd which is in line with at home. In order to protect that business there are hefty fees on camrys etc. the Camry cost over 100,000 Canadian dollars here. Passing by a Lexus I can't imagine what that would would be.  We had a full tour and then were taken to the mall of Lahore.

We met up the Ahsan's mother and auntie who were our experts for the day.  We were to check out the fashions there and then they would take us to the market.  We did purchase shoes and sandals which were made in Pakistan. We all headed off to cafe Alyonto for an Italian lunch.... Pictures below. Then off to Liberty market for shawl buying. Mansoura is the expert and knew where to take us and bargained for us. Also got a tiny shalwar kameez for Avari.

We ended they day with a beautiful supper in b block with Ahsan's ami and uncle where JZ, Nzish and Mohsin live. This is also a beautiful home, very extensive with every modern convenience imaginable. Oh yes we had a new dish which is Kashmiri, it's turnip with meat and was really yummy..... That's one I definitely will be making the future. The outdoor kitchen there had eight burners as they can easily entertain 50-60 unexpected guests!

Dale

Yes its me Dale......and this is where I take the time each night when I travel, to reflect.  Which is a modern way of saying I'm just trying to remember what I did from one day to the next.  Things can get muddled on holiday and a doumented blog can save on future fights...... especially when I can change the date in the database at will.
